Bitumen, its type and usage

What is Bitumen?

 Bitumen is a material that is highly applicable in various industries. Bitumen is called black gold and has many values and uses.

More than 85 percent of the bitumen produced in the world is used for road construction, 10 percent of it is used in other construction, and 5 percent is used in various industries, including insulation. The term bitumen is a material that is created through the distillation of crude oil.

This material has high waterproof and adhesive properties. Bitumen in oil is a mixture of dark organic liquids, high adhesion and viscosity, and is black or dark brown in color.

In nature, bitumen is also created by itself, that is, from the evaporation of crude oil, which is known as raw bitumen, and petroleum bitumen obtained from the distillation of crude oil is called refined bitumen.

 The price of bitumen varies depending on the type of bitumen and is used in various industries. Petroleum bitumen is a viscous substance that exists in liquid to semi-solid phases.

Bitumen is generally composed of asphaltene resin and other petroleum compounds, and different compounds of bitumen give it different properties.The important use of bitumen is due to the presence of two important properties of this material:

* Impermeability to water

* Adhesion

Types of Bitumen and application:

In general, bitumens are classified based on various factors and parameters and are highly diverse. In fact, petroleum-based bitumens are divided into the following three major categories:

Soluble bitumens such as MC, RC, SC bitumens

Emulsified bitumens such as CMS, CRS, CSS bitumens

Pure bitumens such as bitumens with a penetration degree such as 70-60 and PG bitumens such as 30-75

It should be noted that each of these has different capabilities and applications and is used in different situations. It is true that the types of bitumens differ in terms of various factors; However, their most important technical specifications can be summarized as follows:

Viscosity

Ductility
